"Katie B." Classes from the 1960s
Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing operated from 1938 to 1970 and produced hundreds of nurses who served North Carolina and beyond. In this two-part conversation at the Malloy/Jordan East Winston Heritage Center, a hospital administrator and nurses from graduating classes of the 1960s discuss how they arrived at "Katie B.," how their experiences shaped their lives, about working in the field of nursing during the Civil Rights era, and the impact of Winston-Salem's Black institutions like "Katie B." At the time of this recording, it had been 54 years since the institution closed. 2025 marks 55 years.
